A Romantic Downtown Celebration: Carly and Timothy’s Wedding at Central Library Indianapolis

The bride and groom walk hand-in-hand outside a grand stone building with tall columns, dressed in elegant wedding attire, sharing a quiet moment after their downtown Indianapolis ceremony.

Some weddings just stay with us, and Carly and Timothy’s wedding at Central Library Indianapolis is definitely one of them. It was a day full of thoughtful design, refined beauty, and personal touches that made it feel truly special. As their Indianapolis wedding planners, we had the joy of guiding this couple through a planning process that balanced elegance with emotion.

From their Catholic ceremony in one of downtown’s most historic churches to a reception in the striking architecture of the Central Library atrium, every choice reflected their style (classic, tailored, and quietly luxurious). The result was a downtown Indianapolis wedding that was deeply personal, beautifully curated, and truly unforgettable.

A Full-Circle Rehearsal Dinner

The night before the wedding, Carly and Timothy hosted a rehearsal dinner that set the tone for the weekend. They bought out a downtown restaurant and invited all 288 wedding guests to join if they wished.

The night was filled with fun, personal details like toy car escort cards (a little nod to Indy) and amazing food and drink. As a thoughtful touch, we served cookies from the restaurant where they had their first date. It was an incredibly sweet, nostalgic dessert that everyone loved. Most of the speeches happened that night (about ten of them) which gave space for heartfelt stories without interrupting the flow of the wedding day. It made the whole evening feel relaxed and personal, the way rehearsal dinners should.

After dinner, we went over to the newly opened InterContinental hotel’s rooftop bar, Astrea, for the welcome party. This was the perfect way to welcome all of Carly and Timothy’s guests to Indy. It overlooks Monument Circle and created the ideal vantage point (and weather) for the opening night’s festivities.

Getting Ready at The InterContinental

The day began with Carly and her bridesmaids getting ready in a calm, joyful suite at the InterContinental. All in matching toile pajamas and soft white slippers (the kind you never want to take off). Carly’s bridal look was sleek and striking, with a halter-neck gown that flowed beautifully and a minimal gold necklace that added just the right amount of shine. She paired it with pearl-detailed Jimmy Choos, adding just the right touch of luxury.

A Grand and Meaningful Ceremony at St. John the Evangelist

Carly and Timothy’s ceremony took place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church,  a breathtaking Gothic Revival church right in the heart of downtown. Walking into the space, with its vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and marble altar, you immediately feel the weight and beauty of tradition.

We kept the floral décor outside the church lush and romantic. Large columns of white hydrangeas, roses, and soft greenery with hints of light blue framed the church doors. A beautiful first impression for the nearly 300 guests who joined them that day.

Inside, the bridesmaids’ soft blue dresses complemented the church’s rich blue and gold accents, and the personal florals stayed in the same palette we carried throughout the day.

After the ceremony, Carly and Timothy stepped away with their bridal party for group photos (those soft blue dresses and black tuxedos photographed beautifully against the city’s architecture). Once those were finished, the newlyweds shared a few quiet moments together taking portraits around downtown. These are always some of our favorite images. There’s something so genuine in that just-married glow. Afterward, the couple made their way to cocktail hour, ready to celebrate with everyone.

A Lush Outdoor Cocktail Hour on the Library Lawn

Guests arrived at Central Library Indianapolis for a cocktail hour that felt like the perfect mix of laid-back and elevated. We set up a cozy lounge space on the library lawn, with soft neutral seating and blue patterned pillows. Perfect for mingling as the sun set over downtown.

Signature drinks were a sweet nod to the couple’s story, one from a favorite Texas spot and one from the St. Louis bar where they first met. We served them in small portions (they packed a punch!) to keep things fun and light.

As a surprise element, we brought in a sushi chef from their go-to Texas restaurant to roll sushi live on-site. The couple’s love for quality food was clear throughout, and we wanted their guests to feel that right from the start. Appetizers were just as delicious, from sliders to beef crostini with balsamic glaze. A live jazz ensemble played as everyone mingled, giving the whole evening that relaxed, early-summer energy.

An Elegant Reception in the Library Atrium

Planning a wedding at Central Library Indianapolis means thinking big and layering every detail with intention. The atrium’s tall ceilings and glass walls are beautiful, but they need warmth and definition to really shine. We worked with 36 vendor partners (yes, thirty-six!) to bring this space to life with texture, floral design, and lighting.

We kept the color palette soft and fresh with light blues, clean whites, and deep greens. The embroidered table linens added a bit of texture without being too loud, and the floral arrangements gave the space shape and movement. Some tables had tall vases overflowing with greenery and white blooms, others had low clusters of flowers surrounded by candlelight. We even brought in full potted trees to create natural divisions in the room which was a subtle way to make a big space feel more inviting.

Each place setting featured specialty Riedel glassware (we had a full team managing wine pairings for each course), along with textured chargers and crisp napkins. The menu included wagyu beef and incredible wine selections. A clear reflection of how much Carly and Timothy love good food.

The four-tiered white cake stood tall and classic to one side of the dance floor. It was a beautiful focal point without stealing the show.

Thoughtful Details and Heartfelt Moments

After dinner, the Jordan Khan Orchestra took the stage and they were everything (they are hands down the number one band in the country!). The energy shifted from elegant to electric. Guests filled the dance floor, which featured a soft blue and white checkered pattern that gave the space some personality while keeping things polished. Carly’s mom had even embroidered custom checkered hats for the reception. They were an instant hit on the dance floor and a perfect tie-in to the design.

We ended the evening with a private last dance for Carly and Timothy. Their song? “New Year’s Eve.” Timothy sang quietly to her as they swayed, with all their guests lined up outside holding streamers for the send-off. It was a quiet, powerful end to a very full day.

After dinner, we went over to the newly opened InterContinental hotel’s rooftop bar, Astrea, for the welcome party was the perfect way to welcome all of the guests to Indy. It overlooks Monument Circle and created the ideal vantage point (and weather) for the opening night’s festivities.

Carly and Timothy’s talented videographer When It Clicks, shared the sweetest video. A beautiful mix of clips from throughout the day. From quiet morning moments to the packed dance floor, it’s a lovely glimpse into how the entire celebration unfolded. It’s short, heartfelt, and such a joy to watch. You can see it below.

Planning with Intention, Love, and Expertise

Planning a wedding at Central Library Indianapolis isn’t simple. It takes vision, flexibility, and a whole lot of coordination. With nearly 300 guests and a tight setup window, every decision matters. From logistics (limited elevator access and a tight setup window) to design (layering texture and light in a glass atrium), our team worked tirelessly to bring Carly and Timothy’s celebration to life.

We’re so honored to have been part of Carly and Timothy’s day.
